Michael Lumpkin (former Frameline fest director)
“I’ll go with SOME LIKE IT HOT. Surprisingly transgressive and made by one of the best directors of all time, Billy Wilder who co-wrote the screenplay with I.A.L. Diamond. Cinematography by Charles Lang. And what a cast! Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon, Marilyn Monroe, George Raft, Joe E. Brown! I can watch it over and over. “Security!” It’s why I’m gay!”
As the former head of Frameline: The San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival Michael has been championing queer cinema for decades. He was also a co-producer of the groundbreaking documentary THE CELLULOID CLOSET and is now executive director of the International Documentary Association (IDA).
