“One of my favorite LGBT films is FOXFIRE, although I really see it more as a coming-of-age movie than an LGBT film. Perhaps that’s why it spoke to me so personally as a teenager growing up in the Midwest, just beginning to discover new and exhilarating aspects of my personality and sexuality. These young actresses (including the breathtaking Jenny Shimizu) portrayed the spectrum of adolescent rage, lust, love, and friendship in a way that was so vibrant, authentic, stylish, and wonderfully queer.? My favorite scene is the one in which Legs (Angelina Jolie) tattoos herself and each of the other girls after they almost burn down their school — not just because they take their clothes off (okay, maybe in part) but because it’s both emotionally pure and intensely erotic.”
