LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION! is my favorite gay film. It encompasses so many levels of emotions and gives me a feeling of nostalgia. It’s funny, romantic, bitchy, playful & sentimental. The final monologues while they practice the Swan Lake dance always makes me cry. Plus, it lives out my fantasy of owning a home on a lake & having all my friends visit. A recent favorite: WERE THE WORLD MINE. It is such a brilliant take on ‘A Midsummer Nights Dream’ & the music is beautiful & addictive.”

Get your hands on John’s fabulous gay short, BoyCrazy — part of the gay men’s shorts collection: BOYCRAZY (coming to DVD on April 6th but you can reserve your copy now at WolfeVideo.com).

MILK. I love this film because there are so few LGBT movies that pay tribute to our history. Like any marginalized segment of our population there are films that are thematically LGBT, but very few that tell our story and give us an historical purview. That’s why I choose MILK. In hopes that more LGBT period pieces will follow in its footsteps.”

Keep an eye out for Reed Cowan’s 8: THE MORMON PROPOSITION coming soon to a film festival or cinema near you on the heels of its successful World Premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Get more details about the film right here.

“Not only is BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER my favorite LGBT movie, but it’s also one of the funniest movies in my collection. People honestly think that homosexuality can be cured like a disease and it can be sooo frustrating! This movie takes this ridiculous reality and makes light of it with comedic relief. It’s nice to be able to laugh at the things that bother you the most:) I’m a homosexual! I’m a homosexual! I’m a homosexual!”

Jennifer Phang on HALF-LIFE

Check out Ruthe Stein’s in-depth interview with HALF-LIFE director Jennifer Phang on SF360.org. Phang reflects on her acclaimed feature film, her spirituality, her early work and the realities of being a queer Asian filmmaker:

“As a queer Asian woman without a language other than English, I actually fit in nowhere. I can’t fit in with Chinese people because I can’t fully claim my Chinese identity. I can’t claim my American identity in the same way as someone who has American identities for generations and as a woman it’s hard to claim my identity in a predominantly male industry.”
