Jason Bushman (director, HOLLYWOOD JE T’AIME)
“It’s so hard to choose a favorite lgbt movie, but here goes… One of my favorite queer movies is SHORTBUS. I love the spirit of it, the process in which they made it; it’s pretty balls-out, literally and figuratively. One of my favorite performers, Justin Bond, is in it, and everyone else (guys and girls alike) are interesting, and real, and sexy as hell. I also really dig its connective tissue, the animated flyover of Brooklyn and Manhattan, and the sweet, introspective soundtrack. Okay, it gets a little silly at times – the egg vibrator comes to mind – but overall I just loved that the filmmaker had something to say.”

Lisa Cholodenko (THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT)
“I’d have to say ONE of my favorite LBGT movies is SHOW ME LOVE (also know as FUCKING AMAL in Swedish). Teen girls doing their thing. So bittersweet and sexy and tender.”

HOWL Is Coming
The gay cinematic dynamic duo, Rob Epstein & Jeffrey Friedman are currently in post-production on HOWL, a feature film starring James Franco, David Strathairn, John Hamm, Jeff Daniels, Mary-Louise Parker and Treat Williams, about Allen Ginsberg‘s breakthrough poem and the subsequent obscenity trial. Developed at the Sundance Writers’ Lab, and based on documentary materials, this film has evolved out of Rob and Jeffrey’s twenty year partnership making non-fiction films including such legendary classics as THE TIMES OF HARVEY MILK, COMMN THREADS: STORIES FROM THE QUILT, PARAGRAPH 175 and THE CELLULOID CLOSET.
New Dyke Flick from L Word writer Ariel Schrag
The fabulously talented writer/cartoonist Ariel Schrag recently sat down with San Francisco’s dyke writer extraordinaire Michelle Tea to talk about: the new film adaptation of her graphic novel, POTENTIAL (being produced by Killer Films, and to be directed by L WORD and GO FISH director Rose Troche) as well as touring with Sister Spit, the value of denial, and the joy of comics! Read it all right here.
Nicole Conn (ELENA UNDONE, CLAIRE OF THE MOON)
“Here it is: ENTRE NOUS – I just love the filmmaking. It’s lyrical without being sappy, emotional without being sentimental. My other all time fave GLBT film is PARTING GLANCES – just adore that film – and Steve Buscemi in it.”
Pre-order your DVD of Nicole’s latest romantic drama, ELENA UNDONE (coming to fine retailers everywhere on February 1, 2011 from Wolfe). Get your own copy of the 2-disc collector’s edition of CLAIRE OF THE MOON (or just watch the trailer) or discover Nicole’s erotic romance, CYNARA.
Susie Bright (Sexpert and writer)
“My favorite LGBT movie is BOUND. Because the filmmakers came to me and told me they were inspired by me to make it. Because they asked me to be their sex consultant. Because I finally got to make the sex scene I’d wanted to see my whole life. Because we watched it premiere at the Castro with 1500 dykes and all screamed our heads off. Because it’s based on my own sex life and it’s just a hoot to see “me” played by Jennifer Tilly. I know it’s an ego-centric answer, but what else could even come close?
Look for Susie’s new memoir, Big Sex, Little Death in bookstores now. Or go check out Susie’s wildly entertaining blog where you can also get your hands on her brand new e-book, Susie Bright’s Erotic Screen: Volume 1 — The Golden Hardcore & The Shimmering Dyke-Core!
