“I’ve always been partial to PARTING GLANCES because it captures the mood of New York just as what was then called “the gay pneumonia” was beginning to take hold, and also because it’s just such an honest depiction of a certain kind of urban gay life of the time. Other than that, I love AUNTIE MAME and GET BRUCE because they are both about big old queens, but one of them really knows how to dress.”

“He’s been in a boy band, opening for the likes of P!NK, Snoop Dogg and Black Eyed Peas and wooing teenage girls on the pages of Boy Crazy Magazine; he’s been a television host for E! and NBC, appeared on Ugly Betty and The L Word and served as a gay travel correspondent for the Canada-based program Bump! He’s the star of here! [sic] Television’s gay supernatural soap opera Dante’s Cove and had a leading role in the 2007 film fest favorite A Four Letter Word and in the 2008 film fest favorite Mulligans, a movie which he also wrote and produced. Posted on January 26, 2009  | Filed Under LGBT Movie News & Gossip

The 2009 Sundance Film Festival wrapped up this past weekend with Lee Daniels’ dramatic feature PUSH: BASED ON A NOVEL BY SAPPHIRE taking home three awards: the Dramatic Grand Jury Prize, the Audience Award and a special acting prize for Mo’Nique. The film tells the story of a severely abused young black woman whose life is turned around by her new teacher, who happens to be a lesbian.

indieWIRE.com‘s Eugene Hernandez was on the scene for director Lee Daniels’ acceptance speech:

“This is so important to me,” said Daniels, accepting the audience award prize, “Because this is speaking for every minority that’s in Harlem, that’s in Detroit, that’s in Watts, that’s being abused, that can’t read, that’s obese and that we turn our back on. And this is for every gay little boy and girl that’s being tortured. If I can do this shit ya’ll can do this shit. Thank you very much.”

“One of my favorite LGBT films is KISSING JESSICA STEIN. I had such a crush on Jessica, and I loved watching her try to be a lesbian (even though she wasn’t always quite good at it!). Another favorite of mine is TIPPING THE VELVET — just all around fantastic. Forbidden lesbian love, gender-bending performances, and great plot twists.”

Check out Michelle’s terrific new feature film, BUTCH JAMIE — out to DVD on now and available at fine retailers everywhere.
