Ellen Page and Olivia Thirlby

You heard it here first (or else on Defamer where we heard it). Juno star Ellen Page (left) is officially off of the cast list for the long-awaited teen lesbian romance flick, Jack and Diane. Dang! At least Olivia Thirlby (right) is still on board as Jack.

Voting is now open for who gets to be her Diane!

I’m thinking maybe a hot young blond like: Brittany Snow (of Finding Amanda) or perhaps Ashley Olsen?

Wolfe Mobile

Passing out free LGBT DVDs and red Wolfe lollipops, the cherry red vintage Mustang “Wolfe Mobile” made a big splash at last weekend’s San Jose LGBT Pride Parade. Pictured here amidst the festivities is the fabulous Lady Shockra (Wolfe’s own Fedel Sanchez) and Wolfe CEO Kathy Wolfe (in the driver’s seat)! In related news, Lady Shockra graced the cover of the next day’s San Jose Mercury News; while Kathy Wolfe was just named one of the 2008 Top 100 Women We Love by Go Magazine!

Another movie that isn’t actually gay but we just HAD to let you know about it because it’s directed by none other than Patricia Rozema (When Night Is Falling, I’ve Heard The Mermaids Singing) and stars the irresistible Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine). KIT KITTREDGE: AN AMERICAN GIRL opens June 20th in limited release.

“My favorite LGBT film is… okay, it’s a toss up! Both are old school. The first is DESERT HEARTS. I liked it because there’s nothing like a country dyke who can drive and a hot divorcee’ getting it on. The other is I’VE HEARD THE MERMAIDS SINGING. I love the hot, older curator, still one of my fantasies… perhaps I have a penchant for older women, perhaps I saw both these flicks at a tender age.”

“I’ve never been good at picking favorites. I’m thinking that TODAY, my favorite queer-themed film is 20 CENTIMETERS. There is something so beautiful about the way that story is told, with the dreamy musical numbers and all the fantastically flawed characters. It’s romantic and funny and fabulous and sad and just wonderfully constructed. Now, when it comes to something like WILD REEDS, the scenes between the two boys and the girl are so nostalgic—that film so honestly captures the budding sexuality of young adulthood, with all the confusion and fear and heartbreak. But then there are films like MA VIE EN ROSE or BILLY ELLIOT (which isn’t even really queer), which are so moving to me in the way that they examine the necessary strength that we—as outsiders—derive from our parents’ unconditional love. Those two films really reinforce how important it is for all children (and eventually all adults) to feel loved and supported. And to me, reminding the world of the importance of LOVE is what queer films are all about.”
